An Unfortunate Reality
Growing up, the “American dream” for most adults was to give their children a better life than they had growing up.
Imagine a life filled with a nice house in Suburbia, friendly neighbors, a car, a vibrant Church life, little crime, and several well-adjusted kids. That was the goal for most married Americans in the post-World War 2 era. Unfortunately, that dream has completely shattered at this point. The younger generations–Millenials and Gen Z–are not better off than their parents. They are doing lagging their parents and grandparents in many different categories–finances, health, marriage, and many more
My Generation–Gen Z (the Zoomers)–is not doing well.
The Zoomers are not doing as well as their parents and grandparents in many respects. I can tell you that fact is true anecdotally. However, research and surveys show it to be the case too.
According to the American Psychological Association‘s Stress in America survey, more than 70% of surveyed Zoomers reported experiencing symptoms of depression in the last two weeks. That fact is the not a symptom of a healthy, strong society. That’s just one example.
The reality is that many Zoomers are depressed, overweight, addicted to porn, irreligious, romantically unattached, unable to afford housing, and just downright miserable.
I hate to be a downer here, but I see this sad situation among my peers. I’m just being honest here. Many of Zoomers are not happy, well-adjusted members of society.
This situation affects everyone; we are not our own islands. What happens to other people will ultimately affect you and me at the end of the day. I know I’m being a little vague here, but there are numerous examples of what I’m talking about.
For example. let’s say that your son is addicted to opioids. That situation means that your son is unlikely to become a solid husband, father, or leader in the community. Now, let’s imagine that hundreds of thousands of young men are undergoing the same unfortunate circumstance. The broader society
Let’s move back to the situation at hand. We have to recognize that young Americans–the Zoomers–are not doing well spiritually, mentally, physically, and economically.
You would think that everyone would notice and accept the poor state of the Zoomer. Enter the Boomer.
To be a “Boomer” is not about being old. A “Boomer” is just someone who just doesn’t “get it”. Boomers sadly still think America has not drastically changed in the last 30 years. They still think and act like it’s 1991 and that life is good.
“But wait, we’re still hitting 3% GDP! The economy is still strong!”
I constantly hear Boomers make that refrain. We all must be doing well if the stock market and Corporate America is doing well, right?
News flash: it doesn’t.
I care more about the well-being of my fellow Americans over hitting 3% GDP. Conservatives need to care less about Corporate America’s success and focus more on the well-being of hard-working, ordinary Americans.
What to Do?
Okay, so what do we do? The problem definitely exists, but what are we to do about it.
I don’t have all the solutions here. If I did, then I probably wouldn’t be writing this post and doing something else instead haha.
But seriously, I believe there are three primary factors that will benefit the lives of the Zoomers: Christianity, patriotism, and marriage/traditional family life.
I chose these three aspects of life because they are absent in the lives of many Zoomers. I won’t say that embracing all three components will automatically lead to a better life. However, I know that all three elements can and will provide meaning, mission, and purpose to my generation–which it so desperately needs.
Personally, my Christian faith, American patriotism, and traditional family life have been the three main sources of meaning in my own life. So, I hope to see millions of other Zoomers find joy and satisfaction in these three important parts of life.
I hope you enjoyed reading this post, and keep staying up-to-date with this blog!
