Now, this speech is not super well-known. However, I wanted to discuss it because I am becoming a big fan of Mark Robinson. For background, Mark Robinson just won the 2020 Lieutenant governor election in North Carolina. Before getting into politics this year, he served in Army Reserves and worked as a furniture factory worker in North Carolina. As a strong advocate of the 2nd Amendment, Mr. Robinson became famous for a speech he gave two years ago.
Back in April 2018, Mark Robinson gave an impassioned speech to the Greensboro City Council. At the time, the Greensboro City Council sought to ban a gun show at a public facility in his town. As a private citizen, he stood up to the Greensboro City Council by defending American’s 2nd Amendment rights with a fiery four minute speech.
In the speech, Mr. Robinson voiced the opinion of people like us—law-abiding citizens who are on the losing side of gun control legislation. With a bold voice, Robinson proclaimed “I’m the majority! I’m a law-abiding citizen who’s never shot anybody, never committed a serious crime.” He pointed out how politicians pushing for gun control are hurting law-abiding citizens by restricting gun rights. When law-abiding gun owners give up their guns due to gun control legislation, criminals are not going to give up their weapons. They’ll still hold onto their guns, break into people’s houses, and shoot them. Gun control victimizes law-abiding citizens—who are at the mercy of unlawful criminals still owning illegal guns. Lastly, Mr. Robinson concluded that the majority of law-abiding Americans want to keep their 2nd Amendment rights. “We the people” are sick and tired of politicians who push legislation that hurts law-abiding Americans. We need to stand up to politicians at the local, state, and federal level who want to deprive ordinary Americans of their right to own a firearm.
It’s hard to believe that Mr. Robinson spoke so much truth and wisdom into such a short period of time. What a talented speaker!
This speech’s video went viral as it’s been watched hundreds of thousands of times since it was uploaded. Additionally, the video vaulted Mark Robinson into the public eye as Mr. Robinson made several appearances on notable media shows—including Fox & Friends—and has given speeches at NRA and Turning Point USA conferences. You could even say that this video helped him win become the first black Lieutenant Governor of North Carolina this past November.
Even though this speech is not as well known as MLK’s “I Have a Dream” speech” or JFK’s “Man on the Moon” speech, his speech intensely inspired me when I first watched it a few months ago. Clearly, Mark Robinson is a strong man with courage and conviction. This man has a bright future in the conservative movement in the years to come. We should all feel excited to see such a proud patriot fight for this country.
