The Tin Can Conservative

A Patriot's Musings on Culture, History, Politics, and Faith

Oddly enough, I have not talked about the pro-life movement/abortion on this blog before. Thankfully, this post will change that streak.

Due to all of the commotion over the potential overturn of the Roe v. Wade decision, I thought that this post would be timely. With that, let’s dive right into my first foray into the pro-life movement.

A Call for Ending Abortion in Louisiana

Last weekend, I attended the “Rally to Abolish Abortion” at the Louisiana State Capitol building in Baton Rouge. This rally was organized by the Christian organization “End Abortion Now” to support House Bill (HB 813). “End Abortion Now” is a organization that both ministers expectant mothers going to abortion clinics and encourages anti-abortion legislation in State Legislatures.

For context, HB 813–a.k.a. “The Abolition of Abortion in Louisiana Act”–is a proposed piece of legislation that will effectively ban/criminalize abortion in Louisiana. Louisiana Representative Danny McCormick is the legislative sponsor for this epic bill. The Louisiana legislature is in session until early June, so House Bill 813 has roughly one month left to pass both houses of the the Louisiana Legislature.

If you’re curious to read this legislation, I included the link to a copy of House Bill 813.

Moving on, I discovered the “Rally to Abolish Abortion” only a few days before the event. I was reading the conservative political blog The Hayride, and this website wrote about this event. So, I decided to this attend and make my initial entrance into pro-life activism. Fortunately, a friend of mine from LSU TPUSA also went to the event with me.

So, I’ll now go into the my experience at the rally itself!

The Rally Itself

This pro-life rally took place at 10 am on the steps of the Louisiana State Capitol building–where the Louisiana Legislature is housed. Dozens of people from all over the country–from Louisiana to Oklahoma and Utah to Arizona–came in support of House Bill 813: “the Abolition of Abortion in Louisiana Act”.

This two-hour rally centered around several speeches given by various politicians and Christian pastors. The primary speakers for this rally were Pastor Jeff Durbin, Rep Danny McCormick, and Communication Director of “End Abortion Now” Zach Conover.

Jeff Durbin is the lead Pastor of Apologia Church in Arizona–where the “End Abortion Now” got its start.

In truth, all of the speeches at this rally “hit the nail on the head” when it comes to abortion.

Abortion has been a stain on our nation. Over 60 million abortions, over 60 million babies have been murdered since 1973–the year that the Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade took place.

Christian citizens and Christian political leaders have stood idly by while the mass murder of the unborn has taken place in America for the last 50 years.

Moreover, much of the pro-life industry has done little to stop abortion. Pastor Durbin explained in his speech how large Pro-life organizations have hampered his efforts to ban abortion in other State Legislatures. The sad reality is that many Pro-life organizations are perfunctory in nature. They do not actually care about banning abortion and protecting the unborn. Instead, they just take people’s money and do nothing in return.

Regardless, God has encouraged strong men like Pastor Durbin and Rep McCormick to take a stand for the babies!

In short, I was highly encouraged to meet so many other strong Christians and pro-life warriors at this rally. There are many conservatives and Christians out there who claim to be pro-life. But, it was refreshing to meet people who were willing to “walk the walk” when it comes to being pro-life.

Anyways, thank you for reading this post. I truly believe that abortion will become illegal in the state of Louisiana very soon. May God allow that to happen soon!
