The Tin Can Conservative

A Patriot's Musings on Culture, History, Politics, and Faith

The Victory 2022 Conference

A few weekends ago, I attended the largest Republican conference in Louisiana this year: Victory 2022.

The Louisiana GOP hosted this two-day Republican extravaganza at the Cajundome in Lafayette, Louisiana. Nearly 1,000 Louisiana Republican activists, politicians, and speakers attended this convention.

Simply put, most of the top Republicans officials in Louisiana either attended or spoke at this event. There were also a few national figures who also attended Victory 2022. Here are some of the notable speakers/attendees at this conference: Dr. Ben Carson, Dinesh D’Souza, Corey Lewandowski, LA Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser, LA Attorney General Jeff Landry, LA Treasurer John Schroeder, Congressman Clay Higgins, and Congressman Garrett Graves.

Thankfully, a solid group of the Greater New Orleans Young Republicans also attended this event. Our group definitely made our presence known and reminded others that Gen Z conservatives are the future of Louisiana politics. We’re now going to discuss my experience at this conference.

My experience

For Day 1 of Victory GOP, a monumental event occurred: the overturning of Roe vs Wade. My fellow NOLA Young Republicans and I heard this joyous as we drove up to the conference in the morning.

As you can probably guess, the overturn of Roe vs Wade was the “talk of the town” throughout the 1st day of the conference. Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry gave a press conference at the conference where he announced the banning of Abortion in the State of Louisiana. God be praised! Louisiana already had a “trigger law” on the books in case that would automatically ban abortion if Roe vs Wade was ever overturned, and that day thankfully came on Friday, June 24th.

For most of the first day, the NOLA YRS and I attended various breakout sessions, networked with political activists, and relished in the overall camaraderie with our fellow Louisiana Republicans.

I attended a few different breakout sessions about pressing political topics–such as election integrity, the pro-life movement, and voter outreach.

To end Day 1, my fellow NOLA YRs got dinner at a local Lafayette restaurant and enjoyed some cigars at a local cigar lounge. In my opinion, smoking a cigar was the proper way to celebrate the end of abortion in Louisiana. Jokes aside, Day 1 of Victory 2022 went well.

Now, Day 2 of Victory 2022 was more focused on two main parts–a special presentation of the 2000 Mules documentary and the closing Main Session.

Before those two parts of the conference, I attended my favorite breakout session of Victory 2022: “Defeating the Deep State” with conservative writer Scott McKay.

Mr. McKay’s presentation was both highly engaging and informative, so I am grateful to have attended this particular breakout session. You can read a written summary below of McKay’s speech on the RVIVR blog:

In the middle of Day 2, conservative filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza gave a short speech before a special presentation of the 2000 Mules documentary. I highly recommend the documentary for anyone wanting to learn about how the 2020 presidential elections was stolen from President Donald Trump. After the documentary was shown, D’Souza conducted a Q&A for the audience–which answered some viewers’ questions about the film.

Finally, Day 2 of the convention ended with the Main Session. At this session, the top Republican leaders in Louisiana gave various speeches about the various issues facing Louisiana and our nation in the coming years. Some of the notable speakers for this sessions were Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser. state Treasurer John Schroder, Congressman Garrett Graves, Congressman Clay Higgins, and keynote speaker Attorney General Jeff Landry.

Overall, I enjoyed attending Victory 2022 on June 24th & 25th, and I look forward to getting more involved in Louisiana politics in the coming years.

If there’s one thing I learned this weekend, it’s that Louisiana will become an America First state one day. I cannot wait for that day to come sooner.

To close, I just wanted to thank the Louisiana GOP staff for hosting this political convention. I know it took a lot of work to organize Victory 2022, so I appreciated all their hard work. Victory 2022 definitely got me excited for the Red Wave coming in November 2022. Let’s make sure that happens!
