The Creation of an Epic Meme

Mainstream Media: “Just believe me. I’m the TV Man! Everything I say is true.”

Me: “No, Mr. CNN. You are fake news!

Back in August 2020, the city of Kenosha, Wisconsin was burning. After the death of George Floyd in May 2020, many major American cities experienced destructive rioting for the next several months.

The city of Kenosha underwent major rioting last year after the death of the convicted criminal Jacob Blake.

Of course, all the major mainstream news networks sent reporters to cover Kenosha. We are all probably well familiar with how the news media tries to spin news coverage to further the leftist, globalist agenda. The coverage of the Summer 2020 riots–and more specifically the Kenosha riots–was no exception to this reality.

A perfect example of “spin” came from CNN‘s live coverage of the Kenosha riots. In late August 2020, this well-known meme was born.

CNN correspondent Omar Jimenez was reporting during a live-shot of the Kenosha late one night. In his report, Jimenez talked about how “protests” were largely peaceful during the day in Kenosha. However, what Mr. Jimenez failed to mention was just how violent the “protests” were becoming at night. In fact, buildings were being burned, and riot police came out to do a little bit of crowd-control too.

What really made this meme infamous not as much for what Mr. Jimenez said. Rather, it was the graphic on the CNN telecast that gave rise to this meme’s popularity.

The Headline: “Fiery, but Mostly Peaceful Protests”. CNN showed this headline even as a BUILDING WAS BURNING in the background of the camera shot.

Unbelievable. This whole situation seemed like something out of a Babylon Bee article. The lack of self-awareness from these people is truly astounding (and in a way impressive).

The Meme itself

Without further ado, here is the video of one of the greatest memes in recent political history:

As you can probably guess, many conservative political commentators mocked CNN for this situation. How could you not? CNN just makes it way too easy to make fun of them (from Brian “Mr. Potato Head” Stelter to Jeffrey “I jerked off during a Zoom call” Toobin).

The Internet Trolls came out in force and made plenty of spicy memes to mock our favorite fake news network CNN.

To close out this post, I included some of my favorite parodies of the “Fiery but Mostly Peaceful Protest” meme:
